I send this as a message of awareness, enlightenment, and action. As Christian parents and caregivers we are to train up our children in the way that they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Likewise, Christian parents and caregivers have a responsibility to protect our children from the evils of this world, so when they are of age their decisions will align with the ideals of Christ. Many of the media images that are presented before us today are the very representation that we are to guard our children’s spirits, souls, and bodies from, as well as our own. Glorification of the world of darkness, vampires, wizards, witches, morphing from animal to human forms (and vice versa), and zombies has caused parents and children to become desensitized to the reality of demonic spirits and activities, leading to deception and participation in these activities.
The eyes are the gateway to the soul which is where our thoughts, minds, personalities, willpower, and emotions live, and when our children intake these images and experiences on a daily basis, that is who they will become. As a result, you will see a change first in their eyes and then their behavior. The bright, shiny eyes turn into dark, emotionless eyes over time if more attention is given to the world of darkness and its influences.
During this Christmas season take an inventory of what you have purchased your child for Christmas and what you have purchased in the past. You may feel that you do not condone evil presences in your home, but look at what toys you are spending your money on, what you are allowing your child to read and see, and what types of clothing you are allowing your child to wear. Books, television shows and movies, and toys that represent witchcraft, conjure spells and unclean spirits, and exhibit ungodly behavior, open the door of a child’s mind to explore it further. Clothing and accessories decorated with skulls, skeletons, and evil words on them promote death and destruction. Christian people are to be ambassadors of Christ, not of the devil. When we engage in promoting the kingdom of darkness, we fail to represent The Light of the World and His Kingdom. It is impossible to fulfill both missions successfully.
You may ask, “What then am I to do?” I believe in my heart that God has given all believers in Christ the ability to represent the Kingdom of God through positive media images. The responsibility that parents have is to find the positive images and introduce them to their children. Please note that they will not be the artists that are in main stream media. Music is a great influence on all people, and there are so many great Christian and Gospel artists who create music that sounds good with lyrics that align with spiritual truths such as true identity, victory over obstacles, and God’s goodness. Take some time to search and listen to what is out there and purchase some new sounds for your child(ren). They need positive influences in the world in which we live.
As we approach the end of this year and the beginning of a new one, spend some time evaluating what you have given rule and reign to in you and your children’s lives. If you are a parent that wants to live a Christ-led life, then the Holy Spirit will direct you on where adjustments need to be made in your household. Ask Him for help to overcome any obstacles that may present themselves while going through the detoxing process, but know that it is necessary to restore you and your child(ren) back to wholeness.
